In Alghero... on the Notes of the Coral Rivera

Alghero, known as "little Barcelona" for its Catalan history, is located on the northwest coast of Sardinia along the famous Riviera del Corallo.

Not to be missed is the Nuraghe Palmavera, an undisputed symbol of the city that testifies to the skill of the mysterious Nuragic civilization. It is formed of limestone and sandstone blocks, consisting of a central body with two towers and accompanied by an ante-mural and the huts of a village: today there are fewer than 50, but originally it is estimated there were between 150 and 200.

Alghero's historic center is teeming with coastal towers and sights: from the Guillot Palace to the Church of San Francesco and from the Cathedral of Santa Maria to the quaint Church of San Michele.

Stroll along the ramparts, watch the sunset over Capo Caccia and the following day visit. the Coral Museum; the Escala del Cabirol; Neptune's Cave and explore the Porto Conte Natural Park. Among the most beautiful beaches, suffice it to mention Lido di San Giovanni; Maria Pina beach; Lazzaretto and Bombarde.

In Uri--Melodies of yesteryear.

uri events fall 2022

Near Lake Cuga, among hills and valleys, lies the village of Uri, famous for its excellent food and for the presence of a nuraghe and an ancient village in the historic center: the Santa Caterina complex. Uri is a paradise for sport fishing and an ideal place for food and wine tours.

Local products include some excellent olive oil, wine, and especially the spiny artichoke-the real local specialty. Worth visiting in Uri are the ruins of the church of Nostra Signora di Paulis and one of the symbols of the town: Sa Funtana Manna.

Sa Funtana Manna has been since its construction in the late 1700s a meeting place, animal trough and washhouse. The State Archives of Sassari preserve documents regarding the original project, commissioned in 1777 by the Countess of Ittiri and Baroness of Uri donna Stefania Manca Amat, who entrusted the Sassari master builder Gavino Pirino with the construction of a fountain within the town.

Since 2018 The monument is included within the Funtaneris tourist route, On the Roads of Water, conceived by the History Association of the City of Cagliari, aimed at defining and disseminating the regional architectural heritage of water.

A short distance from Sassari and Porto Torres we find Sorso, a municipality characterized by a splendid coastline and a flourishing, lush nature. Sorso is located in the historical region of Romangia, represents one of the most populous municipalities in Sassarese, and overlooks the Gulf of Asinara, to which it offers white sandy beaches washed by turquoise waters.

The Marina di Sorso, which is very popular in the summer, is embraced by Mediterranean scrub and land planted with olive groves and vineyards, but that's not all. Local produce includes Moscato and Vermentino wine, olive oil and eggplant, to which a festival is dedicated.

What to visit in Sorso? Don't miss the medieval district of Bicocca; the church of San Pantaleo; the church of Our Lady of Noli me Tollere and the late Gothic style oratory of Santa Croce, which dates back to the 16th century.

The church of San Pantaleo has a three-nave layout. It is striking for its imposing ellipsoidal dome, called Zimbonia by the Sorsensi, and the artistic main entrance portal carved entirely in wood.
