Among the events scheduled in the province of Sassari in August 2022 is Ballos de Austu, an appointment with the traditions of Northern Sardinia to be held in the town of Nule.

In Nule, on the 8th, 9th, and 10th of August, you will be able to admire an exhibition of traditional dress and the Nule carpet, an opportunity to learn about the various stages in the making of the latter.

Furthermore, on 10 August, the main day of the event, there will be a small parade through the streets of the village until the presentation of the guest groups with a group dance in the public gardens, the main point of the evening, where all the groups present will then perform.

The history of the Nule carpet

Nule is known for handmade carpets made of Sardinian sheep's wool, made on vertical looms according to ancient tradition.
Starting in the early decades of the twentieth century, there is the introduction of colors.

According to the legend of Moor Bolìn, who became enamored of Milena, a young weaver from Nule, proposed to her to marry him, in return he would pass on to her the secret of obtaining colors from herbs. Bolìn kept his promise, teaching his bride how to use various natural herbs to dye wool.

This is why the characteristic design of the Nule carpet is called "flame-like," which represents both the ardor of feeling and the hearth symbolizing the family. In fact, it consists of bright colors that define rhomboidal geometric designs.

In addition to the classic "flame" carpet, you can get endless designs with different color combinations according to your taste.

Several folk groups will participate, including the Nule Folk Group to others from Sardinia (Ghilarza; Atzara; Ovodda and Florinas) and abroad (Mexico; Georgia). The folk evening will close with a DJ set by DJ Cinelli, around midnight.
