MAMATITA FESTIVAL 2026

Travelling event

The Mamatita Festival 2026 celebrates its 10th edition with a journey dedicated to RE-ENCHANTMENT.
It is the first contemporary circus and travelling theatre festival recognised by the Ministry of Culture under Sardegna.
The name derives from a Catalan word from Alghero: ‘mamatita’, meaning nanny, wet nurse – the one who nurtures and cares. From this image, a dialogue takes shape between art, the community, the audience and the local area.
The tour begins with previews in Villanova Monteleone and Alghero, before travelling along the north-western coast of Sardegna.
The heart of the programme is dedicated to contemporary circus: Alghero hosts theatres on wheels, stage machinery and travelling structures.
Among the main attractions are the big top of Circo Madera and the tent of the Théâtre Circulaire, appearing in Sardegna for the first time.
Italian and international companies have put together a programme dedicated to the wonders of the contemporary performing arts.
The touring shows in Sardegna also reach Argentiera, Putifigari, Tempio Pausania, Osilo and Nuoro. Among the events at Alghero in August and September 2026, Mamatita weaves together contemporary circus, travelling theatre and the landscape.
