From 3 to 18 October, Isola dei Teatri 2026 brings a programme dedicated to contemporary performing arts to Sassari. Now in its 31st edition, the festival is one of the longest-running cultural events in Northern Sardinia.
The contemporary performing arts festival in Sassari takes place at Spazio S’Arza, the Teatro Civico, the Pinacoteca Nazionale and other venues in the historic centre. The city thus becomes an integral part of the narrative, through theatre productions, site-specific performances and Italian and international productions. Co-productions foster dialogue between different cultures and the circulation of works.
Workshops and creative sessions engage artists, professionals and the public, creating opportunities for training and new cultural networks. Guided tours and cultural itineraries round off the programme, highlighting the city’s historical heritage and identity. The duration of the event invites the public to experience Sassari over time, supporting cultural tourism and helping to balance seasonal fluctuations. The festival also involves local accommodation providers, catering businesses and commercial enterprises.
Isola dei Teatri thus strengthens the link between cultural production, the community and the local economy. An international theatre festival at Sassari that takes the public on a journey of discovery through the city and Northern Sardinia.
