The Bonnanaro Cherry Fair 2026 celebrates one of the region’s most distinctive fruit crops. First held in the 1950s and revived as an annual event in 1986, the fair has been a feature of the recent history of the Bonnanaro community.
At the heart of the event is the Bonnanaro cherry, a native ‘tenerina’ variety that is particularly flavourful and ripens at the end of May. The fair promotes local cherry production and attracts visitors, producers and artisans to the Mejlogu area.
Over three days, the event combines in-depth discussions, Sardinian culture, poetry, music and family-friendly activities. The programme includes a conference on the future of cherry cultivation, a tribute to the poet Giuseppe Raga and a fair featuring stalls, travelling shows and concerts. Among the key participants are the poets Diego Porcu and Dionigi Bitti, the Tenores di Thiesi, the Seui Street Band and the cover bands Doble Face and 90 Hits. The event is organised by the Pro Loco Bonnanaro Tourist Association in collaboration with the local council. An event that celebrates Sardinian traditions and culture in Bonnanaro, whilst supporting agricultural businesses, craft industries and new opportunities linked to cherry cultivation.
